Will Richardson and Wikis
Wiki's, can they be trusted? Can they be used in the classroom? Will Richardson makes a convincing argument. Yes and yes he states in his book Blogs, Wikis, podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for classrooms (Richardson, W.). Mr. Richardson goes on to explain the accuracy and functionality of the most popular wiki, Wikipedia. He offers the story of Professor Alex Havais who posted thirteen incorrect facts on Wikipedia. This experimental efforts were soon detected and rectified. The incorrect data was removed and replaced within a couple of hours. Mr. Richardson seems to be a firm believer in humanity as he suggests the participants in any wiki work together to ensure its' authenticity. So teachers and parents, fear not. The wiki can be controlled and still offer a learning experience.

Will Richardson and Weblogs
At first just the word BLOG would force my heart to race. After reading the first few chapters in Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and other powerful Web Tools for classrooms by Will Richardson I am beginning to get the hang of it. I especially enjoyed his advice to start small. Chapter 3 in the above mentioned book mentions this piece of advice. Remember. . . The expert in everything was once a beginner. I guess we all need to be reminded of this sometimes. The practice on blogging will enable us to create a positive experience for our students. However, before I begin such a project, I do need to research a little bit more about student safety. Will Richardson does offer some advice on this topic. He suggests using only first names or assigning the child a different name, offering professional development to teachers, and informing students of some safety strategies. I appreciate his advice and will continue to research this matter. These days you can never be too careful.

Podcast
Today I learned how to make and post a podcast. I was so excited until I realized that I accidentally posted every single time I tried to podcast. Please forgive the multiple posts until I can learn how to delete some of them. I am really trying!
